Contracting in Europe - Differences & Opportunities

Monday, October 22
10.00 - 17.00 hrs.

Morning Session 10.00 – 12.45 hrs presented by trend:Research

Market volumes in the German Energy Contracting market have been rising for years now with market potentials still being high in different regions and target groups.

Speakers in this half-day seminar will provide you with an insight on the German Energy Contracting Market. It will start off with a brief description of current general conditions and the initial situation with emphasis on the latest changes in the Energy and Contracting Market along with its trends, opportunities and risks concerning main target groups (e.g. housing industry, industry, public authorities).

What kind of challenges foreign ESCOs have to deal with by doing business in Germany – such as legal barriers, different outsourcing mindsets – as well as options on how ESCOs may increase effectiveness regarding their presales activities on how to separate potential customers into unprofitable and paying/moneymaking ones are shown up additionally.

Furthermore, potential capacities and the strategic fit of combining Energy Contracting and fuel switch (e.g. biomass) will be discussed. What are the chances? What are the risks? Also: Is there (still) enough biomass to meet demands and high set targets?

Afternoon Session 14.00 – 15.20 hrs presented by EUROCONTRACT and WasteWaterHeat

The market for Energy services in Europe provides ample opportunities but at high transaction costs. The market can be enhanced via project development standard approaches, both in general and for specific technologies.

Project development standards for energy services are one step in opening up the market for they provide transparency and increased understanding and trust for the potential clients. For Energy Performance Contracting such standards were developed in the partner countries of EUROCONTRACT (www.eurocontract.net). New business opportunities were provided for ESCOs. Results, new developments, opportunities and some open discussion points will be the core issues during the session from the Eurocontract project.

Specific technologies namely wastewater heat can open up new market opportunities for energy services. A project development guideline based on experience with implemented wastewater heat projects, summarising success factors and drawback is a starting point for a market rollout strategy on European level. The active role of ESCOs to open up this market will be the main point for discussion.

Background to the European Project WasteWaterHeat (www.wastewaterheat.net)

Wastewater is present in the sewage system in all urban areas. In combination with heat pumps it is an attractive (renewable) heat source for heating and/or hot water supply. Project especially in Switzerland and Norway show that this kind of renewable heat supply can be a profitable option from an economical point of view as well as for the environment. Therefore such systems could be especially of interest as a field of activity for ESCOs.

EUROCONTRACT and WasteWaterHeat are supported by Intelligent Energy Europe.
